Qualification Approval
There are no fast track arrangements for centres currently offering the existing qualifications in Sound engineering (1820)
Centres may obtain qualification approval for the new certificate and diploma by following the usual process (contact your nearest regional office and fill in a qualification approval form (QAP))
City & Guilds will grant approval ahead of the go-live date of 1st September 2006 but registrations and entry for the on-line examination cannot be made until after the qualification goes live.
Verification Details
Centres will need to undergo a verification visit prior to being granted approval for the new qualifications. This can be arranged via your regional office as a part of the approval process as detailed above.
Transitional Arrangements
The exisiting qualifications in Sound Engineering (1820) will continue until at least September 2007 by which time you should have migrated to the new qualifications.
Documentation
The qualification handbook and assessor's guide (containing all of the assignments) will be available on the City & Guilds website www.cityandguilds.com shortly after the go-live date.

Assessment Details
To obtain the level 1 qualification candidates need to take seven mandatory units each individually assessed by assignment and additionally assessed by a synoptic on-line, multiple choice test.
To attain the level 2 candidates need to take the mandatory units 201-206 and a further six optional units from 207-223.
GOLA information
This qualification will be tested on-line only using the City & Guilds Global On-
Line Assessment system (GOLA). To run the examination centres will need to
be GOLA-enabled.

Accreditation details
The qualification is due to be submitted to QCA for accreditation and inclusion on the National Qualifications Framework by 1st September 2006. This means
that they will be fundable by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) along
normal lines.
The QCA accreditation number will follow once allocated.
A Level 3 Diploma in Music Technology and Sound Engineering is currently in
development and due for accreditation in Spring 2007.
