These qualifications are available at levels 1 and 2, and evaluate learners' abilities within the context of simple sole-trader businesses. They're suitable for anyone looking for a qualification as the starting point for a career in book-keeping and accounts.
Successful candidates at level 1 would be qualified for employment in a junior role in an accounts office. Level 2 candidates would be competent to fulfil a wide range of routine functions in an accounts office.

Areas covered at level 1 include:

• processing documents using double-entry book-keeping
• preparing statements as preliminaries to financial control
• displaying information about businesses' financial states.

Level 2 covers areas such as:

• preparing control statements
• checking and correcting accounting records
• displaying comprehensive financial information.
  

Examination arrangements

• Centres starting courses after 1 September 2008 should use the new syllabuses and examination material.  Centres will be available to order the new examinations from 1 September 2008.
• Centres starting courses after 1 October 2008 must use the new syllabuses and examination material.
• The last examination (including re-sits) using the old syllabuses can be taken up until 30 September 2008.  Please refer to your standard order processes for UK and International centres when ordering these examinations.
