These NVQs are designed for youth support workers helping young people aged between 11 and 25 to develop personally and socially. Endorsed by the National Youth Agency as appropriate qualifications for youth support workers, they are aimed at people working in a range of settings with young people. These can vary from youth clubs and centres to schools, colleges and voluntary youth organisations.

They are relevant to people working on a full-time, part-time, paid or voluntary basis. These NVQs provide learners with proof that they are competent in their work and have the skills and knowledge needed to do their job well.

The level 2 qualification is suitable for anyone who works directly with young people in any youth work setting. The level 3 qualification is suitable for individuals who work directly with young people in front line services but also have more leadership responsibility for the development and promotion of the service or agency.
