The Certificate in Engineering is a principle vocational award for engineering and is designed for those seeking a qualification in production and maintenance engineering. The qualifications have been designed in order to support the government initiatives towards the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

The qualification structure allows for qualifications in a range of pathways including in a range of pathways including fabrication, welding, mechanical manufacturing, materials processing, installation commissioning and maintenance and electrical maintenance. There are a wide range of optional units allowing flexibility in provision.

Who is it aimed at?

The level 1 is aimed at those new to the area, whereas the levels 2 and 3 are for more advanced and defined areas of engineering such as fabrication or mechanical manufacturing.

It is aimed at 16+.

Qualification structure

The qualifications available in this area include:

Level 1 Certificate in Engineering - This is an introduction to engineering.

Level 2 Certificate in Engineering - pathways include:

  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Maintenance Technology
  • Fabrication and Welding Technology
    Plus more.

Level 3 Certificate in Engineering - pathways include:

  • Welding
  • Fabrication and Welding
  • Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance
    Plus more.

The levels 2 and 3 qualifications can be used as the technical certificates towards the Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.

How is the qualification taught and delivered?

The qualifications are delivered through college based learning. Mandatory units will be assessed by an online (GOLA) test. All other units will be assessed by a centre set assignment.
