The requirement for entry to the Engineering Council Postgraduate Diploma is successful completion of the Engineering Council Diploma, achieving a BEng (Hons) degree accredited by an engineering institution, or being exempted by an engineering institution licensed by the Engineering Council UK to consider special cases through an Individual Case Procedure.

Candidates aspiring to CEng registration may need to undertake further learning. 

For the award of the Postgraduate Diploma, passes must be obtained in two further subjects chosen from the Graduate Diploma list, one technical subject (chosen from five options), a compulsory paper in advanced engineering analysis and a project which demonstrates the principles inherent in working in a group, including the management aspects of a project.
