This core and options model level 5 qualification provides the knowledge and skills demanded of the 'full' teaching role. The Diploma confers licensed practitioner status, QTLS; a professional status introduced through the 2007 lifelong learning sector teacher workforce reforms. Candidates will come from a variety of vocational backgrounds, but will be seeking to gain a qualification for the 'full' teaching role. They may already be in-role, or have no prior experience, but must have access to 150 hours of teaching practice across a range of levels in recognised locations.

The Department for Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS) has allocated up to £30 million of funding for qualifications that fulfil the requirements of the Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills Framework. Diploma learners are eligible to apply for an educational maintenance allowance grant.
Are resources provided?
On qualification approval, centres will receive a free CD: Qualifications for the Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills Framework (CD-00-7305), which contains the qualification handbook with all unit and assessment content.
