The Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering combines an NVQ, a technical certificate and the key skills qualification. It has been developed in line with the SEMTA apprenticeship framework to enable a single transaction.

Who is it aimed at?

The apprenticeship is suitable if your learners want to develop a career in engineering.

Qualification structure

There are four routes available:

• Engineering maintenance (mechanical) with fabrication and welding
• Engineering maintenance (electrical) with fabrication and welding
• Engineering maintenance (mechanical) with mechanical and manufacturing
• Engineering maintenance (electrical) with mechanical and manufacturing.

How is the qualification delivered and assessed?

The advanced apprenticeship combines an NVQ, a technical certificate and key skills qualification.

NVQ: For the NVQ your learners will be taught on the job and will need to be in a suitable work placement. There is an option of taking an online test for the mandatory units.

Technical Certificate: Your learners will be taught in a college-based environment and assessment will be by an online (GOLA) test for mandatory units and centre set assignments for non mandatory units.

Key Skills (England and Northen Ireland): For the application of number, communications and ICT your learners will need to create a portfolio of evidence based on any activity with a clear purpose. They will also need to complete an externally marked test.
