ITQ - Certificate for IT Users (QCF)
iTQ is an innovative qualification for IT Users, with a unique 'pick and mix' design. It is ideal for those in the workplace and in college, as it allows candidates to choose exactly which units best reflect their level of skill. There is even a bespoke/specialised software unit that can be customised for specific applications so you can offer units to suit anyone's needs.
iTQ - not just for the workplace
iTQ is suitable for anybody who uses IT and the flexible structure means that it can be adapted for almost any workplace or job or intended career. Evidence can be collected from naturally occurring IT activities that are undertaken for a specific and real purpose.
This means that learners don't have to be in the workplace in order to achieve the qualification.
The purpose and general content of the end product may be specified by the end user however the candidate must select and use IT to achieve the end product. In many situations the end product will be specified by the candidate's employer or client or the centre.
However, valid evidence can also arise from:
- the search for employment (eg CVs, job applications and emails to potential employers)
- social activities (eg club membership databases, posters and websites)
- enterprise activities (eg business plans, budgets and marketing materials)
- voluntary activities (eg cash flows, programmes and newsletters)
- learning and studying subjects other than IT (eg internet research for a geography assignment, reports/dissertations and presentations)
It is for the assessor (assisted by the expert witness where relevant) to ensure that the activities were for a real purpose.By the very nature of IT, activities can be carried out in a variety of locations not confined to the traditional work place setting.
iTQ Plus
iTQ Plus is a package provided by City & Guilds, which gives centres iTQ with the SkilSure e-portfolio for a competitive rate. Just register your candidates on the iTQ complexes (7541-51/52/53) and, as well as being able to do iTQ, they'll also have access to a fantastic e-portfolio system at a special price which includes the registration on City & Guilds ITQ and the cost of the SkilSure e-portfolio. You will still need to register your learners' details with SkilSure.
So that you can see how SkilSure's e-portfolio will make a difference to the way you run your ITQ, they will allow your organisation to have free access to the e-portfolio for 30 days without registering your candidates with City & Guilds.
You can visit the Skilsure website to have a look at their range of products and use the video demonstrations to see how they work.
What's the next step?
If you're an existing approved centre, you will need to complete a Qualification approval form (QAP). If you are not an approved centre and would like to become one, find out about becoming a City & Guilds approved centre.
