Key skills and related qualifications
The key skills represent the transferable skills most commonly needed for success in almost every aspect of work, learning and life. In England, Wales and (in some cases) Northern Ireland, the six key skills qualifications recognise and accredit learners' ability to apply these skills in real situations.
The key skills qualifications in Communication and Application of Number at levels 1 and 2 are gradually being replaced in Northern Ireland by Essential Skills qualifications (see above). In Scotland, core skills profiling and our Workplace Core Skills units fulfil a similar function to the key skills qualifications.
