- What sorts of things do they cover?
The level 1 qualifications covers the basic skills and knowledge of photo imaging. It covers the image capture of buildings, landscapes, people and events. It also looks at image manipulation and dark room printing.
The level 2 qualifications are designed for people who want to develop their skills and knowledge. It covers areas such as imaging equipment and materials, location photography and imaging management and storage.
The level 3 qualifications are for those people who wish to progress in to employment or into education and training. Learners can choose to specialise in studio photography, portrait photography, location photography, media/design, image processing or scientific imaging. - How will I learn and be assessed?
For these qualifications you'll learn in a group environment with your training provider. You'll be assessed through 1 practical assignment for each unit.

Level 1
You're interested in learning basic photography skills and knowledge, perhaps in order to progress on to higher-level qualifications, to advance your skill as a hobbyist or to prepare for to employment in the sector.Level 2
You have some knowledge and skills in photography. You're interested in developing your skills further, perhaps to progress on to a higher-level qualification, to take your hobby to the next level or to prepare for to employment in the sector.Level 3
You have plenty of photography experience, either as a professional or a dedicated amateur. You want to take your skills to the next level, perhaps to advance in a photography career or to prepare for further training. - How long do they take?
Guided learning hours
Guided learning hours are the hours you spend learning with your training provider or on your own. The guided learning hours for this qualification are:- Award: 30-90 hours
- Certificate: 90-220 hours
- Diploma: 290-600 hours.

- How would we deliver and assess them?
For these photography qualifications, you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete all aspects of the qualification.
To save tutors time in the preparation and delivery of these qualifications, City & Guilds has developed sample schemes of work that provide easy-to-follow suggested modes of study.
You'll assess learners using practical assignments. City & Guilds provides portfolio-based assignments for each unit.

- What resources do we need?
You must provide access to sufficient professional quality equipment in the centre or workplace to ensure candidates have the opportunity to cover all of the practical activities. Examples of the equipment you'll need to provide access to include:
- cameras (fully adjustable) - 35mm small-format reflex film and high-end digital (semi-professional reflex)
- lenses (for each camera) - WA, Standard and Telephoto
- camera accessories - hand-held meters, hand flash, close up tubes and filters/lens hood
- lighting accessories - reflectors, diffusers, soft-boxes, snoots, backdrops
- silver and digital darkroom

- How can we get approval to offer them?
New to City & Guilds?
First become a centre - then you can apply for qualification approval.Already a centre but don't offer these qualifications?
Download and complete the qualification approval form (PDF) and send it to your local City & Guilds office.Already a centre?
You can fast track approval for these qualifications if you offered the previous Level 1 7511, Level 2 7511, or Level 3 7511. - Are there any learner eligibility requirements?
Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.
- Do these qualifications replace any others?
These qualifications replace the 7511 VRQs Photo Imaging.
