If you're a qualified electrician, this Certificate will give you the skills to fit, install and test photovoltaic systems in homes.
From 1 November 2010, this qualification will be superseded by the 2399 qualifications in small scale photovoltaic systems. This qualifications last registration date is currently 31 December 2010.

- How will I learn and be assessed?
To get a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you learn with your training provider - maybe through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments.
VRQs are usually assessed by your training provider using assignments, practical task, exams or online tests.
For the Certificate in Installing and Testing Domestic Photovoltaic Systems, you'll learn the theory and gain practical experience on test rigs.
You'll be assessed on your practical skills. You'll also complete a short answer theory exam.
- Which level is right for me?
Level 3
You're an experienced and qualified electrician who wants the skills and knowledge to install photovoltaic systems. You may plan to diversify your business or specialise in solar energy.
- How long do they take?
Guided learning hours
Guided learning hours are the hours you spend learning with your training provider or on your own. The guided learning hours for this qualification are:- Level 3: 30 hours.
Usual course length
Completing the Certificate in Installing and Testing Domestic Photovoltaic Systems usually takes 5 days or a little longer.This is a rough guide - each centre decides its own timescales and you can often learn at your own pace.

This qualification could give you the skills to take advantage of the demand for alternative energy. It could open new areas of work installing photovoltaic systems in homes.

- How would we deliver and assess them?
To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification. You will need qualified internal assessors.
- What resources do we need?
You need enough space to build a practical rig, and equipment to deliver practical training and assessment. You must provide all the necessary health and safety equipment.

- How can we get approval to offer them?
New to City & Guilds?
First become a centre - then you can apply for qualification approval.
Already a centre?
Download and complete the qualification approval form and send it to your local City & Guilds office. - Are there any learner eligibility requirements?
Learners must be qualified electricians with an Electrotechnical Level 3 NVQ (or previous equivalent).
They should demonstrate they understand the latest wiring regulations, with a Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382) or an equivalent qualification.
We recommend they also have the Certificate in Inspection, Testing, Design and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-01/10).

No, this qualification doesn't directly replace any others.
