Being appreciated
This year's Happiness Index showed that it isn't money that makes us whistle while we work - it's being appreciated and feeling as though the jobs we are doing are worthwhile.
Almost a third of people earning in the £10-15K per annum wage bracket scored thier workplace happiness levels at an impressive 10/10. On the flip side, only 3% of people earning between £40-45K gave their jobs a 10/10.
Hairdressers are the most satisfied workers in the UK and secretaries, PAs and administrators are among the least. Hairdressers rated their workplace happiness levels at an average of 8.69 out of ten whereas secretaties and PAs gave a measly 6.1.
But what characteristics contribute to our overall feelings of satisfaction with our jobs? Hairdressers feel the most fulfilled in their jobs, that the work they do is of value; they have great access to training and development and that they are appreciated for what they do. Conversely, those working in business administration feel as though they are the least appreciated; that they have limited access to training and development and that their skills are underused.
