City & Guilds has launched a competition to give one teenager the chance to help shape their future by winning a day’s work experience with top chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix.
The competition is open to all 14-19 year olds, and the winner will be selected by a panel including Mark Hix and City & Guilds. People can enter through the City & Guilds Facebook page
www.facebook.com/cityandguilds where they’ll be asked to submit a short video, 150 word entry or picture telling City & Guilds the one thing they need to help them shape tomorrow and have the future they deserve. Young people were also given the chance to enter at The Skills Show, which took place last week in Birmingham.
The competition forms part of
City & Guilds’ Shape Tomorrow campaign, an initiative created to understand how young people can influence the UK of tomorrow. Those wishing to get involved in the discussion can do so by following

Commenting on his partnership with City & Guilds, Mark Hix said: “Working as a professional chef I am acutely aware of the vital role skills play in building a satisfying career with scope for personal development in any hands-on industry. When it comes to employing people in my restaurant, this is equally important; I need to have confidence that my staff have the right skills and training to hit the ground running in a busy environment, and deliver the high quality of work my customers expect.
“That is why I believe that young people must be given the opportunity to access training to give them the skills they need for the industry they choose, and that’s why I am delighted to be working with City & Guilds on this competition as part of their Shape Tomorrow campaign. Having the right skills based training will set these young people apart for employers.”
