City & Guilds is excited to reveal two new suites of Maths and English qualifications for adult learners in the UK. The introduction of these new qualifications supports our wider promise in Maths and English, helping all learners to achieve the relevant skills they need to succeed in work and life.
What’s on offer?
English and Mathematics Skills (3847)
This is our most flexible range of qualifications available, providing a truly bite-sized and highly personalised approach to learning that facilitates progression to the highest level. Assessment is via a portfolio of evidence.
Status update: 3847 is now accredited and approved for funding for both 16-18 and 19+ learners. The qualifications are live and available to use now: English and Mathematics Skills (3847).
Principles of Using English and Mathematics (3844)
This is a quality learning programme that is assessed via a robust one-off test which provides instant recognition of achievement so learners can prove they have the skills to go into employment or further learning.
Status update: 3844 is now accredited and approved for funding for both 16-18 and 19+ learners. These qualifications are currently being piloted with a number of centres and we will update you soon regarding open registrations.

Who are they for?
The qualifications are ideal for adult learners (16+) who need to improve their Maths and English for the purposes of employment or further education and training. They can be taken in isolation or can be used as a stepping stone towards the ultimate goal of a Functional Skills qualification at Level 2, or an A*-C grade GCSE.
Get up and running – fast, simple set-up
We’ve simplified the approval process for existing customers, with fast track approval for eligible centres. New customers can access centre approval forms from our Application for Centres page within the Centre Document Library.

Technological Baccalaureate
Maths and English underpins City & Guilds’ Technological Baccalaureate, and these new qualifications will play an important role in supporting learners’ development of these skills.
