Andy Smyth is Accredited Programmes Development Manager at TUI Travel UK and Ireland, which is part of TUI Travel Plc.
Prior to joining TUI in 2005 Andy, spent 18 years working in the logistics industry working in operational and management roles before moving into the Learning & Development team.
Over a 7 year period he worked on various new business implementations setting strategic learning and development plans, designing solutions and delivering development from the top of each business.
The main focus of Andy's current role is the development and management of accredited programs in line with business needs and government policy.
A key part of this is the company's apprenticeship programmes for which TUI were awarded OFSTED Grade 2 in 2011. Modernising the delivery of qualifications to match business processes has enabled apprenticeships and vocational programmes to extend in to new business functions.
Andy is a regular contributor to government policy boards on learning & skills and how they contribute to growth.
Andy was the joint employer lead on the BIS Employer Reference Group to improve the skills system and reduce bureaucracy that led to the publication of the LSIS report ‘Simplifying end-to-end apprenticeship processes for employers’ which was formally responded to on 6th September 2011 by John Hayes, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning.
Andy joined Council in October 2011.
