City & Guilds hosts a number of Fellowship events throughout the year. These include

New Fellows and Honorary Fellows are presented with their diplomas at special ceremonies held regularly throughout the year. Our latest presentation was held at our Annual Fellowship Lecture on Thursday 26 March 2015 at Barber Surgeons’ Hall, where Sir John Armitt CBE FREng FCGI, Chairman of City & Guilds, presented five new Fellows of the Institute with their Fellowship diplomas. 

Chris Jones, Director General of City & Guilds, read a citation for each Fellow during the presentation explaining the achievements that each Fellow had reached. 

Diplomas were presented to:

  • The Rt Hon Richard Caborn HonFCGI - Former MP and Minister for Sport
  • Sir Philip Dilley FCGI - Chairman, The Environment Agency

  • Professor Joanna Haigh CBE FRS FCGI - Head of Physics, Imperial College London

  • Mr Hugh Ogus MBE FCGI - Former Chairman and Managing Director, Poselco Lighting Ltd

  • Sir John Parker GBE FREng FCGI - Chairman, Anglo American Plc

Once the formalities had taken place a celebratory dinner was enjoyed by all.

Annual Fellowship Lecture

Each year one of our eminent Fellows presents a lecture to an invited audience of Fellows, Councilors, Livery Company representatives and staff, with the aim of stimulating debate around issues relevant to the work of the Institute.

2015- Synthetic Biology – Engineering Biology to Build the Bio-economy by Professor Richard Kitney OBE FREng FCGI

On 26 March we were delighted to welcome Professor Kitney as the Institute's 13th Guest Lecturer at Barber Surgeons' Hall. He spoke on the topic of ‘Synthetic Biology – Engineering Biology to Build the Bio-economy’.Professor Richard Kitney

Awarded Fellowship of the City and Guilds of London Institute in 2005, Professor Kitney is Co-Director of the Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation and the National Centre for the Industrial Translation of Synthetic Biology at Imperial College.

Over 80 guests attended the lecture and used the reception that followed to network and continue the debate.

Annual Fellowship Luncheon

Held annually at Imperial College London, this is an opportunity for Fellows to gather over lunch and hear guest speakers talk about the work of Imperial College and City & Guilds. 

By courtesy of the President of Imperial College, Professor Alice Gast, City & Guilds was delighted to hold its 81st Annual Fellowship Meeting and Luncheon on 5 June 2015 at Imperial College London. Over 40 Honorary Fellows and Fellows attended the luncheon at which they heard addresses by Sir John Armitt CBE FREng FCGI, Chairman of City & Guilds and Professor Alice Gast.

As well as providing a great opportunity for Fellows and their guests to gather and network, the luncheon also hosted the presentation of the 2015 FCGI Centenary Award. This is presented each year to an outstanding Imperial College student. This year, a prize was presented to Yuebi Yang, Vice President of the City & Guilds College Association (Activities).
