Karim Merzouk, who has recently completed a City & Guilds Profile of Achievement, describes how the award has helped him build a new life in difficult circumstances, and reveals his dreams for the future.

Nowadays, Karim can unwind with yoga in his own home, and dreams of using his language skills to become an interpreter. Until recently, it was very different – after a marital break-up he became homeless, developed problems with drink and drugs and descended into depression. Help from MIND and CRISIS have been invaluable; and completing a City & Guilds Profile of Achievement through the CRISIS SmartSkills Programme has given him abilities in literacy, numeracy – and yoga – which have put him on course for a new life.
