Civil Service: Operational Delivery Apprenticeship

City & Guilds has worked with the Employer Trailblazer Group for 3 years to develop and successfully implement the first Apprenticeship Standard for Operational Delivery.

With over 280,000 operational delivery professionals in the Civil Service and thousands employed by Local Authorities, the standard is an attractive option for many organisations.

What to expect

By September 2016, all major central government departments, such as HMRC, DWP, Home Office and other public sector employers such as local authorities and government agencies, will have taken aboard over 2000 Operational Delivery Apprentices. City & Guilds works closely with all employers and their chosen lead learning providers to ensure the successful completion of each apprenticeship.

Apprentices work towards a Level 2 Award in Operational Delivery (Principles) and a Level 3 Certificate in Operational Delivery (Advanced). These qualifications, combined with on-the-job experience, coaching and mentoring help them develop the knowledge needed for employment as well as career progression on the frontline in different public-facing environments.

End Assessment Delivery

As the End-Assessment Organisation for this standard, we have now started the delivery of the end-point assessments to first apprentices who successfully completed their on-programme learning. These will be the first ever end-assessments delivered for the new Apprenticeship standards under the new reforms. The apprenticeship scheme has provided Employers the opportunity to train young talent into highly professional operational delivery staff by adding value to their business, exactly the way they wanted to and without disrupting day-to-day operations.

Head of Apprenticeships at the Civil Service

“This influx of fresh talent into operational delivery, with the potential to progress, is an exciting step in putting our profession in the best possible position to deliver the 21st century services that UK citizens at home and abroad demand. The scheme will give apprentices great opportunities to develop all the skills, knowledge and behaviours operational delivery professionals need in order to make sure that millions of UK citizens and businesses get the services and protection they need.”
