City & Guilds is working closely with key employers and industry bodies to develop new apprenticeships in England.

Trailblazers, which are groups of employers from an industry sector, are responsible for developing the new Apprenticeship Standards and associated Assessment Plans.

Our expanded apprenticeship offer includes new qualifications, on-programme assessment tools and guidance, and end-point assessments – all tailored towards meeting the needs defined by the relevant Apprenticeship Standard.

Building Services Industry

There are several Trailblazer Apprenticeships in development in the Building Services Engineering sector. These Standards range across Heating & Ventilation, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Refrigeration & Air-conditioning.

Electrical Installation

City & Guilds aim to offer the following on-programme and/ or end-point assessments:

Installation Technician / Maintenance Technician (Electrotechnical)

How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

City & Guilds have been developing and creating market leading products and services to learners in the Electrotech/ BSI sector/s for a number of decades. As market leaders, we continue to invest for the future to ensure our products and services are recognised by industry bodies and employers.

City & Guilds has extensive experience in the Refrigeration/ Air-conditioning and Building Services Engineering sectors, dating back over 50 years.

We work collaboratively with the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) and also the Air-conditioning Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB) on new qualification developments.

Built Environment Services

City & Guilds help develop units and qualifications in: cleaning services, waste management, facilities, housing and energy. These are created in partnership with: Training Providers, Colleges, Trade Associations, Professional Bodies and employers.

 

Facilities Management & Property Services

City & Guilds aim to offer the following on-programme and/ or end-point assessments:

How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

City & Guilds has extensive experience in the Built Environment, Building Services and Construction sectors, dating back to our origins working with the Livery Companies of London in the late 19th century.

Who we partner with

We partner with employers, trade associations and professional bodies in the design and delivery of our qualifications. Our partners provide the technical expertise, while we provide the expertise in translating job roles and tasks into learning outcomes and assessment materials that are delivered across our extensive network of centres.

The Standard for a Property Maintenance Operative was developed by:

There are several Trailblazer Apprenticeships in development in the Business Skills sector. These include Standards across Finance & Accounting, Legal and Business Admin & Public Services. 

Finance & Accounting

City & Guilds aim to offer the following on-programme and/ or end-point assessments:

Actuarial Technician

We are an approved end-point assessment organisation on the Register of Apprentice Assessment Organisations (RoAAO)  for this Standard.


How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

City & Guilds has been a key organisation in Financial Services for 15 years, working with the sector to develop units and qualifications across a range of financial services that cover banking, insurance and pensions.

Who we partner with

We work collaboratively with training providers, colleges, trade associations, professional bodies and employers, as well as developing a relationship with the National Skills Academy and the Sector Skills Council for financial services.

Who are the Trailblazer group?

City & Guilds support the Actuarial Trailblazer group and aim to deliver the Actuarial Technician Standard.

This helps ensure our products and services are fit for purpose, meet industry needs, whilst meeting our primary objective: to get learners into a job, help them progress on the job and help them on to the next job.

City & Guilds worked with Central and Local Government in the development of the new Operational Delivery Officer Apprenticeship.

    City & Guilds offer a range of qualifications from Leadership and Management in Health & Social Care, to Dental Nursing and Pharmacy Services. These qualifications have been developed with the support of industry experts and regulators to ensure they support the needs of today’s employers.

    City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing is supported by the industry regulator, General Dental Council (GDC). It enables learners to register with the General Dental Council as a Dental Nurse. The qualification is also part of the existing Apprenticeship Framework.

              How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

              City & Guilds has extensive experience in the Digital Industry, dating back 15 years. We work collaboratively with training providers, colleges, trade associations, professional bodies and employers developing units and qualifications. This ensures our products and services are fit for purpose, and meet industry needs, whilst ensuring we meet our primary objective: to get people into a job, help them progress on the job, and help them on to the next job.

              Who we partner with

              We work closely with leading organisations such as Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA, to develop qualifications that are recognised by employers.

              We’ve also partnered with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, to ensure that learners completing apprenticeships have the opportunity to gain professional status through their Register for IT Technicians.

                Golf Greenkeeper

                • On-programme registrations – Live
                • End-point assessment registrations – expected late 2016

                We are an approved end-point assessment organisation on the Register of Apprentice Assessment Organisations (RoAAO)  for this Standard.


                How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

                City & Guilds has extensive experience in the Horticulture and the broader Land-based sector, dating back to the 1930s. Many of the early qualifications were borne out of training requirements within the Young Farmer’s Movement when the achievement of skill was encouraged through competitions at club, regional and county level.

                Who we partner with

                We work collaboratively with training providers, colleges, trade associations, professional bodies and employers. This ensures our products and services are fit for purpose and meet industry needs, whilst meeting our primary objective: to get learners into a job, help them progress on the job, and help them on to the next job.

                Transport Maintenance

                    City & Guilds aim to offer the following on-programme and/ or end-point assessments:

                    Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle)

                    • On-programme registrations – expected late 2016

                    We are an approved end-point assessment organisation on the Register of Apprentice Assessment Organisations (RoAAO)  for this Standard.

                    How much experience do we have in this sub-sector?

                    City & Guilds has worked with the Retail Motor Industry in excess of 50 years delivering qualifications and remains the gold standard in qualification and standard delivery. 

                    Who we partner with

                    We work with employers from the Trailblazer group as well as being a fully supportive member of the Motor Manufacturers Technical Training Group.

                    In addition, our qualifications are supported by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the Retail Motor Industry Federation; independent garages; body shops; motorcycle dealers, petrol retailers; auction houses and number plate dealers who provide sales and services to motorists and businesses across the UK.

                    Who are the Trailblazer group?

                    City & Guilds works closely with the Automotive Retail Trailblazer group to deliver the Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) apprenticeship.

                      City & Guilds are recognised leaders in the industry, offering thought leadership, contributing to the development of UK policy, and providing key input to conferences and developments for the further advancement of the field.

                      How does City & Guilds support Trailblazers?

                      Using our experience and expertise in learning and assessment principles, we’re able to support Trailblazers to follow best practice, as they develop new Apprenticeship Standards. We aim to create apprenticeships which can be delivered efficiently, cost effectively and to the very highest quality.

                      To ensure the apprenticeship meets the relevant sector’s needs, we also collaborate with leading industry bodies and specialists.

                      Similarly, we develop our new apprenticeship products with employers and industry bodies, to ensure the apprentice gains the skills needed in today’s workplace.

                      Timescales

                      Some of the Apprenticeship Standards, which we have supported Trailblazers in developing, are already available for delivery. We are supporting Trailblazers on many more, which are still in development. You can find details of all of these, listed by industry sector, in the accordions below.

                      This is an exciting time for apprenticeships in England, with a gradual switchover to the new Trailblazer Apprenticeships expected to be complete by 2020. Heading towards this goal means our work with Trailblazer groups and our product offering is constantly in progress. We will update these pages regularly to keep you up-to-date.
