About this level

This level will suit you if you work as a qualified electrician, electrical engineer, supervisor/team leader or in a related role.

There are two separate pathways within this qualification:

  • Inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • Design, erection and verification of electrical installations.

For the Certificate in the Certification of Electrical Installations (Inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations) pathway, you complete two core units:

  • Technical knowledge of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • Practical application of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations.

For the Certificate in the Certification of Electrical Installations (Design, erection and verification of electrical installations) pathway, you complete three core units:

  • Practical application of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • Technical knowledge of design, erection and verification of electrical installations
  • Design of electrical installations.

What's involved in delivering this course?

To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Additionally, you will need qualified internal assessors. For the Certificate in Electrical Installations, you will be assessed using a practical demonstration, an assignment and a written examination.

All learners must be employed in electrical installation. You must make sure they can access all the resources they need to complete the qualification.

What's involved in studying this course?

You can choose to focus on designing and installing or inspecting and testing electrical installations. You'll cover topics like:

  • technical knowledge of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • the practical application of the inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations
  • the design of electrical installations.

To get a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you learn with your training provider - maybe through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments. VRQs are usually assessed by your training provider using assignments, practical tasks, exams or online tests. For the Certificate in Electrical Installations, you'll be assessed via:

  • practical demonstration/assignment
  • practical examination
  • written examination.
