They enable learners to develop the essential knowledge and hand-skills to become an aerospace technician or engineer. Normally completed in College they are a vital part of either an intermediate or advanced apprenticeship in the Aerospace sector.

2675-05 Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance (Civil Aircraft Mechanical) enables learners to work towards EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence (Category A.1) theory elements. This qualification has been accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and is included in the apprenticeship standard for Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician (Fixed and Rotary Wing).


Learners entering the aerospace industry within either the Armed Forces or a civilian organisation.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the qualification to meet the needs of a civilian or a military employer and your chosen specialisms. Subjects covered include:

  • Aviation safety
  • Electrical fundamentals
  • Theory of flight
  • Aviation maths and science.

You will learn in the classroom of an FE college or specialist centre.

Assessment is through tests, some of which will be online.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
This level is designed to equip a new entrant into the aviation industry with the basic knowledge required as part of their training as an unlicensed aircraft mechanic.

Level 3
This level is designed to equip the aspiring Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or unlicensed Aircraft Technician with the majority of the knowledge requirement for their chosen role. Further training and experience are necessary for the award of a CAA licence.

These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of aerospace engineering roles, including:

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors. You can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

There are no specific eligibility requirements, although learners will benefit from a good grasp of mathematics and scientific principles.

Level 2
