The PC Maintenance qualification offers an introduction to a career in the ICT sector, working with clients in the office or home. It provides a general grounding in basic hardware maintenance and software installation. You will also develop invaluable troubleshooting knowledge and skills.
This is an ideal qualification for school leavers looking for their first role in the ICT industry or adult learners looking for a change in career, or a boost to their skills for carrying out home maintenance on their computer.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

 You will cover all the essential skills and knowledge you need to get started in this industry including things like:

  • Dismantling, assembling, installing and maintaining a desktop computing system
  • IT security
  • PC maintenance
  • IT troubleshooting.

You will learn in the classroom and assessment will be through a series of assignments.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified trainers and assessors, as well as suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners the opportunity to achieve and meet industry standards.

Centres approved to offer the 7266-11 Level 1 Certificate in ICT Systems Support - PC Maintenance will get automatic approval if they have been active in the 2009-10 academic year.

You can get fast-track approval if you offer:

  • Level 2 Diploma for IT Practitioners (7266-24) or Level 2 Diploma in IT Systems Support (7266-26)
  • Level 2 NVQ for IT Practitioners (4324-02)
  • Level 2 Award or Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles (7540-12)
  • Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in ICT Systems Support (7540-12)
  • Level 1 Certificate or Level 2 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence (4520)

Level 1

Level 1 is ideal for those looking to develop basic skills and knowledge in order to get started in the IT industry.

There are two pathways, each comprising mandatory units:

Pathway one

  • Dismantle, assemble, install and maintain a desktop computing system
  • Fundamentals of computing systems and customer care.

Pathway two

  • IT User fundamentals
  • Setting up an IT system
  • Optimising IT system performance
  • Security for IT users.
