The Certificate in Adult Literacy Subject Support is for anyone interested in working with adults and supporting their literacy. It's particularly useful if you're a learning support assistant or a non-specialist teacher for over 16s.

Anyone with a good level of literacy can take the qualification. You don't need a current work placement, but you should have some experience of, or a keen interest in, teaching adults.

What's involved in delivering this course?

To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Anyone can take this qualification, but learners need to be able to read and interpret written tasks and organise written information clearly.

You'll cover things like:

  • learning support theory and practice.

To get a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you learn with your training provider - maybe through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments. VRQs are usually assessed by your training provider using assignments, practical task, exams or online tests. For the Certificate in Adult Literacy Subject Support you will prepare a portfolio of evidence and written assignments.

You have some experience in helping adults learn and would like to increase you understanding of literacy. You might be a learning support assistant or a non-specialist teacher for over-16s.
