Maritime Security Operatives (QCF) (8269)

About these qualifications

Designed for individuals wishing to operate or currently operating as Privately Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP). The Maritime Security Operative (MSO) qualification is the only Ofqual accredited qualification based directly on the new international standard for Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs): ISO28007 [Guidelines for PMSCs providing privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships].

The qualification is also suitable for those wishing to operate as an unarmed maritime security operative on board ships.

All elements are covered except medical, firearms handling and other STCW requirements. The units have been mapped to PDSD, which represents approx. 25% of the total syllabus. The qualification has been welcomed by the UK Government and the UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). It has the support of major shipping associations and the security industry (SAMI and SCEG).

Who are they for

It is aimed at Maritime Security Operatives (MSOs) wishing to operate or currently operating as Privately Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP).

It is an accredited, nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification, which allows military leavers access to CTP/ELCAS funds.
