English Skills and Mathematics Skills (3847)

About these qualifications

A highly versatile collection of units and qualifications for learners in England that are designed to support flexible and personalised patterns of English and mathematics learning. Available at five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2), they can be used to help learners progress towards 'destination' qualifications such as Functional Skills or GCSE.

Each unit focuses on a specific area of the National Standards for Adult Literacy/Numeracy and is a qualification in its own right, although units can also be combined into larger themed Awards (eg in Reading or Handling Data) as well as Certificate-sized qualifications that cover the whole standard.

Who are they for

They provide adults and young people with a flexible, relevant and highly personalised route to certification, and the opportunity to secure the skills needed for their next steps in life, work and study.

These qualifications complement the Principles of Using English and Mathematics (3844), which enable learners to demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of English and maths through a one-off onscreen test.
