For motor vehicle diagnostic technicians who want to improve or prove competence of their knowledge and skills to diagnose and repair complex vehicle faults as well as using advanced communication skills to liaise with a diverse range of audiences and supervising others.

A Certificate in Advanced Auto Diagnostic Techniques is for anyone with several years' experience of diagnosing and repairing vehicle faults. You'll need industry experience and a Level 3 qualification such as an NVQ in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or an IVQ Advanced Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

While completing this qualification, you'll cover things like:

  • advanced techniques for diagnosing and repairing vehicle faults
  • communicating with customers when they bring vehicles in for repair
  • coaching, supporting and supervising people in teams at work.

A higher level qualification helps you develop the skills to work at the very highest level in your industry. You learn with your training provider and apply your knowledge in a work setting. You'll do plenty of practical work to show that you can diagnose complex vehicle faults and repair them. You'll also work in groups to show that you have the skills to communicate effectively with customers and people you supervise at work. Then you'll take a practical test to show the skills you've gained.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

You'll need to simulate a workplace where learners can demonstrate skills to diagnose faults and repair vehicles. You must make sure they can access all the resources they need to complete the qualification.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

All learners must be employed in the motor industry and learners must have a relevant Level 3 automotive qualification.

Level 4

You complete three core units at level 4:

  • Advanced diagnostic techniques
  • Communicate and liaise effectively
  • Provide personal and technical support.
