How do I gain a Senior Award?
Applying for a Senior Award
Now that you’ve decided to do a City & Guilds Senior Award, applying couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is simply download a copy of the relevant application form, send this back to us with a cheque for the relevant sum and any supporting evidence for your application.
Applying for a Licentiateship (LCGI)
Applicants must provide evidence that they have performed competently in a relevant work environment. Evidence of industrial achievement may take the form of an industrial qualification (e.g. an industry recognised apprenticeship) or confirmation from a current or recent employer of at least five years’ appropriate employment.
Applying for a Graduateship (GCGI) or Membership (MCGI)
There are three application stages to the Graduateship and Membership thesis route:
1. Submit a synopsis of the report you intend to write
This would be assessed, and if acceptable, you could move on to stage two.
2. Writing your report
Once your report has been written and submitted, it will be assessed. You will then be invited to stage three
3. The interview panel
You will be interviewed by a panel of three assessors; the specialist assessor who reviewed your report and synopsis, a non-specialist and the Chairman. If you pass the interview, then you will be awarded Graduateship or Membership status as relevant to your application.
The Graduateship and Membership portfolio route:
The portfolio route assesses your experience against six key management competency areas. You submit the application form, detailing how you fulfil the six key areas along with your CV. We review your application, and if we feel that you stand a good chance of success, you would then be invited to assemble a portfolio of evidence to support your statement. When this is finished, the application form, along with the supporting portfolio is sent to an assessor, who will review and assess it. You would then be invited to an interview, which will follow the same format as above.
Applying for Fellowship status
Candidates applying for Fellowship status may apply personally may be nominated by sponsors or be invited by the Council of City & Guilds to receive the award. Referees and sponsors will themselves be people of national standing.
Candidates applying for either a Graduateship or Membership can opt to receive guidance and support from a qualified City & Guilds assessor. This advisor will be able to answer your queries about the format of the report, what is required, and can review example parts of your thesis. For thesis route candidates, this is an optional service: those who do not wish to have guidance and support do not need to. For portfolio route candidates, guidance and support is built into the fee.
