The City and Guilds of London Institute (City & Guilds) is a Royal Chartered Institute (RC117) and a registered charity (no.312832).  Our Royal Charter was granted by Queen Victoria in 1900.

Our governing body is the Council which comprises some 70 individuals in four different categories – Ex Officio, Appointed, Elected and Co-opted.  This ensures that we represent a wide spectrum of views and can draw on a multiplicity of talents. Full list of members.

Our President is HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT HonFCGI and he has served in this role since 1951.

Our current Chairman of Council is Michael Howell HonFCGI

The 70 Council members elect up to 14 of its members to form the executive committee who are regarded as Trustees by the Charity Commission and they are accountable for ensuring that City & Guilds continues to pursue its charitable objectives and that it remains financially robust.

An independent Quality & Standards Committee, chaired by Baroness Perry of Southwark HonFCGI, monitors all matters relating to quality assurance and acts as the final arbiter in appeals.

The strategic direction of City & Guilds and its day-to-day management is overseen by the Group Board which is headed up by the Director-General, Chris Jones.

A number of Advisory Committees have been established to scrutinise and provide advice on issues relating to the devolved nations of the UK and major industrial sectors where City & Guilds has an interest.
