Introducing new standardised terminology
We’ve simplified and standardised our terminology.
Below is a list of new terms:

| Assessment | The assessed element of the qualification eg written assignment, portfolio Replaces: Exam |
| Catalogue | The catalogue is the quick and easy way to find all you need to know about City & Guilds qualifications and related publications. You can view, download and print the most up-to-date product data. Replaces: Directory of Awards |
| Cohort | A group of candidates sharing a common characteristic eg belonging to the same tutor group. |
| Entry Type | The type of order required to book an assessment. These are: 'D' Dated Entry; 'OD' On-demand; 'OL' Online; 'M' Centre assessed; 'NA' Not applicable. |
| On demand | An exam-based assessment where the date and time are determined by the centre. Replaces: Single subject |
| Order Code | The reference to identify a qualification. Replaces: Scheme Number, Complex, and Programme Number. |
| Performance Codes | ONLY applicable to specific On demand assessments. Replaces: Weakness codes |
| Qualification | Overall ‘award’ following achievement of a defined set of standards. Qualifications may be accredited or not, standard or customer specific, work based, single or multi-unit. Replaces: Award, Complex, Programme |
| Qualification Group | A grouping of related qualifications. Replaces: Scheme |
| Route | Defines whether the qualification is available for full or unit route. |
| Subject Area | The highest level categorisation of qualifications and publications eg Children and Young People. |
| Subject | The second level categorisation eg Early Years. |
| Unit | The smallest part of a qualification capable of certification in its own right. Note: some units may consist of more than one assessment, eg Key skills. Replaces: Component |
