International ESOL (8984) and International Spoken ESOL (8985) certificate titles

In June 2007 we released a Product Update to all centres that described changes to the titling of International ESOL and International Spoken ESOL certificates. The changes were made to conform to the UK’s Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) accreditation requirements.

However, due to a systems upgrade in the period from August 07 to November 07, batches of certificates have been released with titles that are slightly different to those detailed in the above Product Update. The certificates issued from August 07 for all levels of both International ESOL and International Spoken ESOL include the acronym ESOL at the end of the title. Please see below for an example: 

City & Guilds Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (reading, writing and listening) (Entry 1) 500/1763/9 Preliminary – A1 ESOL

City & Guilds Entry Level Certificate in ESOL International (Spoken) (Entry 1) 500/1770/6 Preliminary – A1 ESOL

The inclusion of this acronym does not in any way change the validity of the certificates and is only a temporary issue while the systems upgrade takes effect. Once the systems upgrade has been completed, the titles will return to those listed in the June 2007 Product Update i.e. without the ESOL acronym. An example is shown below:
