The 3901 entry level qualification provides a practical introduction to the automotive maintenance and repair industry. The qualification consists of four pathways, each of ten units:

• Vehicle maintenance
• Vehicle body and paint
• General vehicle maintenance (offers capability to mix and match any of the above)
• Vehicle electrical systems

Learners receive a certificate for each individual unit and the qualification attracts the maximum QCA credits for this level (28).

Centres use this qualification in wide range of contexts, from a basic trial for school age learners wanting an introduction to the industry, for evening classes or even as a pre-apprenticeship programme.

Assessment is through practical task.
