City & Guilds released a new study tracking the uptake of its most popular vocational qualifications in the UK over the last 10 years and results indicated UK as hot-bed of Salon know-how.

The number of hairdressing and beauty qualifications completed in 2007 highlighted the sector’s ability to attract new students with a seven per cent increase in City & Guilds hair and beauty awards gained during this time - more than 43,000 qualifications awarded in 2006-07.

The research revealed a number of pioneering cities whose residents are soon to become the most beautiful in the country, as students really develop a taste for the hair and beauty industry:

  • Nottingham flew the flag for hairdressers and beauty therapists in England, with the popularity of courses increasing nine per cent.
  • Scots will cut a style and put the English to shame, as the popularity of hairdressing and beauty courses within City & Guilds’ top 20 qualifications rose by more than 25 per cent in the last year.
  • Liverpool saw nearly an eight per cent increase in the number of hairdressing and beauty qualifications completed in the city.
