Cricket stewards best qualified In England - 19 Mar 2008
The stewards at Somerset County Cricket Club are the best qualified in England after the 32-strong workforce all achieved their City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety.
They attended a training day provided by Integer Training, from Cornwall, and underwent a skills assessment.
Last week the stewards gathered at the County Ground, Taunton, to celebrate their qualifications.
Somerset CCC ground safety officer Paul Bulbeck said: "We are the first county cricket club to achieve this award with our staff, which now brings us in line with the recently introduced common standards and skills required in spectator safety.
"With this national qualification our stewards could go and work at any other first class county or any professional soccer club"
Chief executive Richard Gould said: "It is fantastic to be setting new standards in training for all of our stewards which will enable us to enhance the service that they provide to all of our members and spectators."
