PTLLS networks and standardisation workshops

The PTLLS network and standardisation workshops for 2008 are only four weeks away!

09 July 2008 – Wakefield
22 July 2008 – Warrington
23 July 2008 – Taunton

These events are only £65 to attend and are packed with features, including:

  • Opportunities to network and chat with our own specialist advisors and your fellow City & Guilds teacher training deliverers.
  • Sessions on the minimum core guidance.
  • Free materials to take-away.
  • Workshops on best-practice, standardising the quality of your assessment marking, internal monitoring and programme delivery.
  • What’s new to teacher training from City & Guilds and much more…

The event runs in two parts, offering a morning of networking and the chance for a one-to-one catch-up with our quality team, plus an afternoon of rigorous standardisation to ensure you’re achieving the best quality in your programmes – be sure to bring along samples of your candidate assignments, assessment records and IV reports to make the most of these activities.

Re-accreditation in progress

You will have noticed that we are nearing the last registration and certification dates for the Award, Certificate and Diploma.

Rest assured that accreditation extensions are currently in progress. The Online Catalogue on Walled Garden will reflect the newly extended dates as soon as we receive confirmation from QCA.

The Catalogue will also soon display a message to confirm this status for each of the affected qualifications.

Tips and extras on the minimum core

Extra! Extra! We’ve developed additional support material to get you set for success in implementing the minimum core in your programmes.

Learners can now access a helpful click & type tracking document (word file, 0.66 mb) which can be used to exemplify fulfilment of the knowledge and understanding elements of the minimum core, as applicable to their qualification.

Centres and EVs can seek quick reference from our minimum core look-to guide (pdf file, 0.20 mb), which summarises where the minimum core must be covered, what to look for in candidate assignments and what your EV will seek to verify.

These documents will soon be available to download from our dedicated QTLS microsite under ‘benefits and support’.

Staffing update

In clarification of the staffing requirements for the 7303, 7304 and 7305 qualifications, please note that members of the core delivery team must possess a qualification equivalent to QTLS status – the level 4 NVQs in Learning and Development and Training and Development provided as example qualifications are not deemed sufficient.

Please also note that internal verification staff must to fulfil the same qualification and experience requirements as the core delivery team.

Qualification handbooks will shortly be revised to reflect this clarification.

Should you have any enquiries about qualification and experience requirements, please refer to your external verifier for further guidance or email us.

Combining optional units – the new rules

Level 4 optional units within the 7304 Certificate and 7305 Diploma programmes can now be shared across both qualifications, following the release of new rules of combination (ROC) by LLUK this month.

City & Guilds is in the process of updating the Online Catalogue on the Walled Garden so that optional units can be built up to the required number of credits from the now 15 strong pool of level 4 optional units.

Remember that in order to achieve the full qualification candidates will need to achieve optional units to a minimum value of 6 credits (max 18 credits) for the Certificate, or 30 credits (15 credits at level 4 and 15 credits at level 5) for the Diploma.

Hot off the press! We’ve also got three new units available to centres this month:

  • Conflict management training (level 3) – 6 credits.
  • Managing behaviours in the learning environment (level 4) – 6 credits.
  • Teaching a specialist subject (level 4) – 15 credits.

Revised handbooks reflecting all these changes are included with this month’s news, with the added extra of an optional unit summary sheet so you can easily see what’s on offer to-date.
