Administration Officer

'I didn't want to go to Uni,' Annabel says firmly. 'It was too much like school.' She has pretty fixed ideas about work too. 'It's no good earning lots if you're in a job you don't like and you dread going in each day. If you've got job satisfaction, you feel good and you wake up wanting to go to work.' She's a person who clearly knows what makes her happy.

Once she realised that college wasn't for her, Annabel approached North Lancashire Training Group for help in finding employment. She was then surprised when she was offered a job within the NLTG itself, a job where she could both work and study at the same time.

Annabel is now the Administration Officer for the NLTG, which offers courses in glass installation, joinery and upholstery, admin and quite a few other things too. Annabel feels completely at home in this busy environment. 'It's a hectic department, no two days are the same,' she points out. 'But I like working under pressure and I like to go home feeling I've achieved something.'

Annabel is the first to admit she has worked hard to get her City & Guilds Level 2 NVQs in Business Administration and Customer Service. 'But it helps that it's all work based. Whatever you're doing on the job helps you on the course, and whatever you're doing on the course helps you on the job. Plus, you're earning money while doing something you enjoy, you can see what you're getting out of it and I've got a lot of friends here.'

Annabel isn't stopping now she's started. In fact she's now studying for a City & Guids Level 3 in Customer Service and sees a good future for herself. 'I'd like to still be here in ten years time but higher up the ladder. There are lots of promotion prospects.'

Ask her about her natural abilities and Annabel is modest. 'People here tell me I've got a bubbly nice personality and that I'm friendly.' At five o clock, Annabel goes home happy.
