Role Profile
The number of examiners we employ each varies according to student numbers, popularity of different qualifications and other factors. This year we contracted around 700. There is no formal role profile, but examiner duties can include any or all of the following
- setting short answer or multiple choice exam questions and assignments
- attending meetings to edit and moderate the above
- checking multiple choice item bank compilations
- marking exam scripts
- attending marking standardisation meetings.
Examiners work to timescales established by the industrial sector they're working with. The setting and marking is usually on a by-series basis (usually a minimum of twice a year) but this depends on the qualification - it could be all year round.
To be a City & Guilds examiner you should
- have excellent subject knowledge
- maintain high quality standards
- be passionate about vocational education and helping people reach their full potential
- display good written and verbal communication skills
- be well organised and able to keep to deadlines.
