Health - NVQ (No. 3173 )
Developed with Skills for Health, these qualifications are especially designed to cover particular health care specialisms and prove that learners are skilled, competent and qualified healthcare workers. Whether working in the NHS or with an independent healthcare provider learners will find the right qualification for their work. These NVQs are available at levels 2 and 3. To achieve their chosen pathway at this level, learners need to complete ten units. They can select two from the four core units: They then choose the remaining eight units that best match their usual work role. These units cover a wide range of tasks and are grouped into general/clinical competences, pathway-specific and work effectiveness competences. Full details of the qualification structure and additional units are contained within the qualification book located within our Related Documents section below. These units cover a wide range of tasks and are grouped into general/clinical, pathway-specific and work effectiveness competences. Full details of the qualification structure and additional units are contained within the level 3 qualification book located within our Related Documents section below. Learners do not need formal qualifications to do these NVQs but you must ensure that they are working in a health care setting within an NHS trust, general practice or in an independent health care setting and working with patients and users of health care services. As these qualifications are work based NVQs, learners are assessed in the workplace performing real work activities. In addition to observation, there is a range of other methods of assessment such as expert witness observation, professional discussion, accounts and case studies. In order to ensure that all requirements are met, assessors must determine the most appropriate mix of assessment methods. The competences appear in many pathways and some are also in the NVQs in Health and Social Care. This means that learners may be credited with competences that they have already achieved in other Health NVQ pathways or in the Health and Social Care NVQ. Learners can choose units of competence which will help them to develop and move across into different specialisms or which allow them to extend their competence within a given specialism.
