‘It suits us well. We specialise in just-in-time training that fills a gap quickly, and City & Guilds online testing allows us to be extra flexible. Now, more than ever, we can alter our courses to suit our clients, and we can test whenever we like. This might not seem such a big advantage until you’re training lads on shift work who might want to take a test at six o’clock in the morning. Now we can. If we had more space we would have more computers and we’d have no difficulty in doubling our numbers. Online testing suits our candidates too. We often get the older man who’s been an electrician for quite some time. Many haven’t been in an academic atmosphere since school and they’re terrified about sitting behind a desk. They’re much happier with computers. The fact that City & Guilds online testing gives immediate results adds a positive element to the whole learning experience. To see them going out of the door happy is great. They want to get their results, and when they’re successful it gives them so much confidence. If they don’t pass we can look at someone’s score, look at each component, put someone on a tutorial to address the weak part and then make sure they pass the next time. We’ve got no worries with security, either. As far as we’re concerned this is more secure than paper exams because all the students get different tests.’
