The Level 1 NVQ in Horticulture is a work based qualification designed for candidates wishing to enter the horticultural industry. It is applicable to both production and amenity horticulture, with optional units to suit both career paths.

• Maintain safe and effective working practices
• Transport supplies of physical resources within the work area
• Assist with the maintenace of grass surfaces
• Assist with maintaining structures and surfaces
• Assist with the maintenace of equipment
• Assist with planting and establishing plants
• Assist with maintaining plants
• Assist with the vegetative propogation of plants
• Assist with the propagation of plants from seeds
• Assist with harvesting, collecting and preparing crops
• Assist with identifying the presence of, and controlling, common pests and diseases
• Assist with the preparation of the growing media
