PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR 14-19 YEAR OLDS - DIPLOMAS
Diplomas offer different ways of learning and a route into skilled employment or higher education. City & Guilds, working with AQA, is the only awarding body that offers the Diploma in Engineering with Automotive Specialist Learning at Levels 1, 2 and 3. That means you can study automotive from Year 10, regardless of your expected GCSE grades. You will learn some of the key principles of automotive engineering, get to grips with practical tasks and develop an ability to solve problems. You'll have the chance to work with real employers, developing your skills and experiencing what work is really like. own repair business or even in the pits at Silverstone. JUMP START YOUR CAREER - ENTRY LEVEL 3 AWARD IN VEHICLE SYSTEMS AND BODY & PAINT MAINTENANCE 3901
If you are just starting out then our Certificate in Automotive Vehicle Maintenance is a great place to begin. This entry level qualification is made up of four pathways, each of ten units:
- Vehicle maintenance
- Vehicle body and paint
- General vehicle maintenance (offers capability to mix and match any of the above)
- Vehicle electrical systems
It's usually taken through a college or training provider but that doesn't mean you'll be stuck behind a desk. Working in vehicle maintenance is a hands-on job and this is a hands-on course. Once you have successfully completed this qualification, develop your skills and build your career further with Progression Awards and NVQs.

MOVING UP A GEAR - AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE & REPAIR, BODY & PAINT, VEHICLE FITTING AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 4101 NVQ/SVQ/V 1,2,3
If you want to work in the automotive industry then this is your next stop. It's available at three levels to help you progress. It offers options for light vehicle, heavy vehicle and motorcycle maintenance, vehicle body repair and valeting, tyre fitting, general vehicle fitting, roadside assistance and recovery. Level 1 is the ideal starting point for complete beginners from the 14+ age range. Once you have completed level 1 you are then able to advance to level 2 and also take related NVQ/SVQs to prove you can do in practice what you've been taught – you will need to have a job first.
OPTIONAL EXTRA - MOBILE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS 5101 VRQ
In today’s competitive car manufacturing market most vehicles come fitted with air conditioning (A/C) as standard, but garages struggle to find skilled technicians. This qualification helps you to close that skills gap by offering units that are separately certified and can be taken individually. For the full qualification, all three units are required:
- Refrigerant Handling for Mobile A/C Systems
- Testing and Servicing Mobile A/C Systems
- Advanced Diagnostics for Mobile A/C systems
PRODUCE YOUR REGISTRATION - AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN ACCREDITATION
With the increasing sophistication of vehicles and a shortage of skills, there has never been a greater need for competent technicians. The Automotive Technician Accreditation is a national voluntary scheme testing the competence of individuals working in the motor industry. It has the backing of major vehicle manufacturers, independent service and repair organisations and Thatcham. ATA registered technicians are bound by a Code of Conduct, given a photo ID card, included on an online register and there is publicity material and point-of-sale available.

PRIZE DRAW TERMS AND CONDITIONS
A free prize draw ("the Draw") will be held within 24 hours after the closing date for all persons who have submitted an entry to the competition via the web-form ("Entry") by 17.00 on 21 July 2008 in Great Britain. The Draw is for a chance to win a Nintendo Wii, or one of 20 tickets to the London Motor Show ("the Prizes"). The following terms and conditions apply to the Draw.
The promoter of the draw is The City & Guilds of London Institute, 1 Giltspur Street, London, EC1A 9DD (registered charity 312832) ("City & Guilds").
- To enter the Draw for the Prizes you must have submitted an Entry.
- All participants who have submitted an Entry will automatically entered into the Draw, provided they have given their name and a valid email address.
- By entering the Draw all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these terms and conditions.
- Entries will be accepted from 01 July 2008 until 17.00 on 21 July 2008 in Great Britain.
- No responsibility will be accepted for Entries which are lost, delayed, misdirected or corrupted due to any computer malfunction, virus, bug, delay or other reason whatsoever.
- The Prize winner will be selected by random draw.
- No purchase is necessary.
- Only one entry is permitted per person.
- The Draw is open to all UK residents aged 14 or over, except employees of the City & Guilds Group, or their agents, families or partners.
- There will be twenty-one winners drawn; the first winner drawn will win the Nintendo Wii, the remaining winners drawn will win a ticket to the London Motor Show. No cash alternative is offered.
- If the winner of the pair of tickets to the London Motor Show is under 16, written parental consent will be required before the tickets are given to the winner. Should consent not be given within 48 hours the winner forfeits his prize and another random winner will be selected in his/her place.
- City & Guilds will endeavour to notify the winners by email within 24 hours of the Draw. If any winner does not claim his/her Prize within 48 hours of notification, he or she forfeits the Prize and another random winner will be selected in their place.
- City & Guilds will not be liable if any of the Prizes does not reach the winner for reasons beyond the control of City & Guilds or if any of the Prizes is damaged during delivery.
- The winner agrees to the use of his or her name in any promotional activity following the Draw.
