What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You'll cover things like:

  • How to fit, install and test photovoltaic system components
  • Health and safety
  • Regulations regarding photovoltaic systems
  • Roofing, commissioning and testing
  • Customer care.

To get a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you learn with your training provider - maybe through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments.

VRQs are usually assessed by your training provider using assignments, practical tasks, exams or online tests.

For the Certificate in Installing and Testing Domestic Photovoltaic Systems, you'll learn the theory and gain practical experience on test rigs.

You'll be assessed on your practical skills. You'll also complete a short answer theory exam.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification. You will need qualified internal assessors.

You need enough space to build a practical rig, and equipment to deliver practical training and assessment. You must provide all the necessary health and safety equipment.

Learners must be qualified electricians with an Electrotechnical Level 3 NVQ (or previous equivalent).

They should demonstrate they understand the latest wiring regulations, with a Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382) or an equivalent qualification.

We recommend they also have the Certificate in Inspection, Testing, Design and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-01/10).

No Level

This is ideal if you're an experienced and qualified electrician who wants the skills and knowledge to install photovoltaic systems. You may plan to diversify your business or specialise in solar energy.

To earn this qualification, you must complete two core units:

  • Knowledge of photovoltaic systems
  • Practical applications of installations and testing.
