Responding to the need for domestic-scale low carbon and envirornmentally friendly technologies, these qualifications act as Continuing Professional Development for qualified electricians, plumbers and mechanical engineers who wish to broaden their skills. They provide in-depth knowledge of environmental technologies and the competence to install and maintain these
in the home environment
This qualification is for qualified electricians, plumbers and mechanical engineers who want to broaden their skills to install and maintain environmental technology systems. Level 3 is ideal if you're an experienced electrician, plumber or engineer who wants to install and maintain a type of environmental technology - solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, heat pumps or water harvesting and recycling.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

For this qualification, you'll focus on one particular type of technology and gain the skills to install a system. You can also choose a more in-depth qualification that covers maintenance too. The choice of technologies are, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal hot water systems, heat pumps, water harvesting and recycling.

Our qualifications can lead directly into employment, offering learners the chance to develop their skills and knowledge to a high

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors and suitable facilities – The requirements for these can be found in the qualification handbook. Centres will need to fill out a (QAP) qualification approval form and highlight which complexes they wish to run

Level 3

This level will suit you if you're an experienced electrician, plumber or engineer who wants to install and maintain a type of environmental technology - solar photovoltaic systems, solar thermal systems, heat pumps or water harvesting and recycling.

There are nine awards available at this level:

  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation of Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation of Heat Pumps Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits)
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Heat Pumps Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits)
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation of Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems
  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Water Harvesting and Re-use Systems.

Depending on the award you choose, you complete two or four core units, for example:

  • Install, commission and handover 'active' solar thermal hot water systems
  • Install, commission and handover solar photovoltaic systems
  • Inspect, service and maintain solar photovoltaic systems.
