The Level 1 Award and Certificate in Neighbourhood Improvement is about cleaning, clearing and removing graffiti in a range of environments within local neighbourhoods. They cover the skills and knowledge required to carry out a range of cleaning and clearing activities, including:

- litter picking
- graffiti removal
- clearance of larger fly-tipping hotspots
- environmental clearing.
The qualification has been developed for young learners (aged 14-19+) and those who wish to return to work. You don't need to have any previous knowledge or experience of the cleaning industry to take this qualification.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You'll learn the essential skills and knowledge needed for cleaning up your local community - from litter picking to dealing with fly tippers.

You will learn mainly in the classroom, but there will be a number of practical tasks set in suitable environments.

Units are assessed through a combination of practical assignments and multiple-choice tests.

Ideal if you're just starting out in the cleaning industry or are new to the subject area. This level covers routine tasks and basic knowledge.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

In order to deliver these cleaning qualifications, you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres approved to offer the Level 1 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Cleaning and Support Services (7648), Level 2 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Cleaning and Support Services (7648), or the  Level 2 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Cleaning Principles (7695) may apply for approval for these new qualifications using the fast-track approval form.

There are no eligibility requirements.

Level 1

This will suit you if you're just starting out in the cleaning industry or are new to the subject area. This level covers routine tasks and basic knowledge.

There are three qualifications available at this level:

  • Level 1 Award in Graffiti Removal
  • Level 1 Award in Cleaning Neighbourhood Areas
  • Level 1 Certificate in Neighbourhood Improvement.

The awards comprise two mandatory units. The certificate comprises three mandatory units.
