These practical qualifications develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to maintain local outside spaces safely and efficiently and cover areas such as:

- clearing and landscaping horticultural sites
-working with power tools
- planting seeds
- maintaining sports turf
- specialist cleaners.
These are ideal for anyone working, or hoping to work, in maintaining parks, amenity areas and grounds -as a groundsmen, estate management staff and outdoor cleaner. It also forms part of the apprenticeship scheme for Local Environmental Services along with the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Cleaning Principles (7695-04), which forms the knowledge component.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

This qualification covers the specialist skills such as

  • Clearing sites
  • Landscaping
  • Preparing and sowing soil
  • Maintaining sports turfs.

You will learn on the job in the work environment.

Assessment will also take place in the workplace and will include observation and a portfolio of evidence to meet the criteria of the qualification.

You are working in environmental services and have some relevant knowledge and skills in maintaining outdoor amenities such as parks and sports grounds, usually in a role where you've been supervised. You may also be on a local environmental services apprenticeship.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

  • Clearing horticultural and landscaping sites

  • Maintaining sports turfs.
