What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

This keyboarding qualification places emphasis on supplementary as well as alphabet keys so it's ideal for all sorts of keyboarding roles.

You will learn on the job in the work environment, or in the classroom.

Assessment is through an externally set and marked test.

Level 1

This qualification boosts your basic skills in keyboarding - enabling you to understand all the functions of the various keys, and improve your technique, to enable you to work a keyboard with confidence in the workplace.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

This qualification can help you to progress in a wide range of roles that require good keyboarding skills including:

  • Secretarial and administration roles
  • Data inputting
  • Call centre operators.

This keyboarding qualification could also be the stepping stone to a range of administration qualifications including:

  • City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 Awards in Office Procedures (8993)
  • City & Guilds Level 1 Award and Certificate in Business Administration (4418)
  • City & Guilds Levels 1,2 and 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Business Skills (7593)
  • City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 Certificate and Diploma for Legal Secretaries (7465)

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver this qualification, you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

In order to offer this qualification in keyboarding you will need:

  • Suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment
  • Suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.
There are no eligibility requirements.

Level 1

This qualification boosts your basic skills in keyboarding - enabling you to understand all the functions of the various keys, and improve your technique, to enable you to work a keyboard with confidence in the workplace.

This is a single unit qualification.

Candidates will be expected to:

1. Produce text effectively from handwritten and typewritten drafts:

  • a piece of informative text
  • a letter related to the text
  • a display item.

2. Proof-read incorrect text against a correct copy for accuracy and layout.

3. Plan and organise the work within the time constraint.

4. Plan the layout of material.

5. Respond to written instructions.

6. Proof-read and correct all text produced.
