THE 7465 LEGAL SECRETARIES QUALIFICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED TO REGISTRATIONS AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE NEW 7655 LEGAL SECRETARIES.

The Certificate and Diploma for Legal Secretaries are qualifications for administrators wanting to develop a career in the legal sector.

Developed with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) these qualifications will help you build on your administration skills to prepare you for a job in a legal or business environment.
The Certificate and Diploma for Legal Secretaries are for anyone interested in a career in a legal or business environment.

You need some basic administration experience, but you don't need any previous qualifications or a current work placement.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

At Level 2 you can cover things like:
  • Legal information processing
  • Legal word processing
  • Proof-reading in the legal environment
  • Working in the legal environment.

At Level 3 you can cover things like:

  • Business skills in the legal environment
  • Legal word processing
  • Proof-reading in the legal environment
  • Advanced legal information processing.
For the Certificate and Diploma for Legal Secretaries you will learn in a group with your training provider. You'll study a series of assignments designed by CILEx.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 2
You work or would like to work in a business or legal environment. You want to learn the skills for an administrative role in the legal or business sector.

Level 3
You work or would like to work in a business or legal environment. You want to learn, develop and practise the skills you need to move on in your career and take on more responsibility.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Learners must have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to organise written information clearly.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete the programme of study.

Level 3

Level 3 is ideal if you want to learn, develop and practise the skills you need to move on in your career in the legal sector and take on more responsibility.

At this level there are four qualifications to choose between:

  • Level 3 Award in Proof-reading in the Legal Environment
  • Level 3 Award in Legal Information Processing
  • Level 3 Certificate for Legal Secretaries
  • Level 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries.

Both the awards are single-unit qualifications. To gain the certificate, you complete three mandatory units:

  • Level 3 Legal word processing
  • Level 3 Business skills in the legal environment
  • Level 3 Proof-reading in the legal environment.

The longer diploma is comprised of two routes:

  • Legal Information Processing route
  • Legal Studies route.

You will need to complete four mandatory units to complete the Legal Information Processing route:

  • Level 3 Legal word processing
  • Level 3 Business skills in the legal environment
  • Level 3 Proof-reading in the legal environment
  • Level 3 Legal information processing.

The Legal Studies route consists of three mandatory units:

  • Level 3 Legal word processing
  • Level 3 Business skills in the legal environment
  • Level 3 Proof-reading in the legal environment.

The Level 3 Legal Studies route also requires that you complete a number of credits from optional units in Level 2 Legal Studies - if you already have the relevant Level 2 Legal Studies you can import the credits towards the Level 3 diploma.
