This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in the area of painting and decorating.
Our qualifications are aimed at people wishing to learn some skills in painting and decorating, to progress on to becoming skilled in their chosen trade, or to progress through an apprenticeship and work towards becoming a master craftsman.

We have produced sample tests to enable tutors and learners to experience the look and feel of e-volve prior to sitting the test, and also experience the type and style of question that will be asked in the test.

Level 1

A Level 1 qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Painting and Decorating.

Level 2

Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in Painting and Decorating - probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.

It covers the following skills:
  • Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms
  • Preparing Surfaces for Decoration
  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller
  • Applying Foundation and Plain Papers
  • Producing Specialist Decorative Finishes
  • Applying and Creating Colour
Our Extended Diplomas are intended for use as part of apprenticeships for learners just starting out in construction trades, typically aged 16. Centres are advised to use both the Level 1 and Level 2 handbooks, which contain all the units for the extended diplomas.

Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in the construction industry and have plenty of experience. Your work might involve supervising others or managing resources. You want to develop your skills further and move into a senior role or a position with more responsibility.

It covers the following skills:
  • Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms
  • Applying Hangings  to Walls and Ceilings
  • Producing specialist finishes for painted decorative work
  • Producing specialist architectural finishes for decorative work
  • Applying Water-Borne Paint Systems Using airless equipment 
  • Applying water-borne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment
Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating (6707-33)
