The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Bricklaying is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the construction industry as a bricklayer.   Learners could progress into employment as a bricklayer, onto an apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Bricklaying (450) is for learners who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills that will lead to meaningful employment in the construction industry. Learners will explore a wide range of bricklaying techniques that includes constructing fireplaces and chimneys, decorative and re-enforced brickwork, and constructing radial brickwork.

These technical qualifications can also form part of the City & Guilds TechBac – an exciting new framework for learning designed to give 14 - 19 year olds the technical and professional skills needed to progress from FE onto an apprenticeship, into university or into the modern jobs market.

To ensure learners develop the wider workplace skills required by employers, TechBac goes above and beyond the technical qualification. It combines an accredited project qualification, practical work experience and critical skills development, brought to life via the TechBac Skills Zone, an innovative online learning hub giving learners the opportunity to practice and develop their skills anytime, anywhere.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Bricklaying will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• The principles of construction
• Building cavity walls
• Constructing basic arches
• Setting out buildings

Learners interested in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Bricklaying (450) will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• Organising, planning and pricing construction work
• Repairing and maintaining masonry structures
• Constructing radial and battered brickwork
• Decorative and re-enforced brickwork
• Constructing fireplaces and chimneys

What Careers Can This Lead To?

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Bricklaying could lead to a job as a bricklayer, working for a house building company, a property development company, or as part of a small business repairing and refurbishing buildings.  It could also lead to an apprenticeship in bricklaying. 

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Bricklaying (450) could lead to the following employment opportunities:
• Bricklayer working on a construction site or commercial or domestic premises
• Self-employed bricklayer working on domestic repair and refurbishment projects

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
