What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Depending on which level you choose, you'll cover areas like:

  • Basic shampoo, conditioning and hair drying techniques
  • Dealing with and consulting salon clients
  • Colouring, designing and cut and re-style techniques
  • Working with a team and contributing to salon promotional activities.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
You're just starting out in hairdressing and want a basic understanding of the industry - enough to succeed in a job in the hairdressing area or move on to further study.

Level 2 You have some knowledge and basic skills in hairdressing - probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want to increase your skills and take on more responsibility.

Level 3
You've worked in the hairdressing industry for some time - you have plenty of experience, and your work might involve supervising others or managing salon resources. You want to develop your skills further, possibly moving into a salon management or ownership role.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Level 3

This level will suit you if you've worked in the hairdressing industry for some time - you have plenty of experience, and your work might involve supervising others or managing salon resources. You want to develop your skills further.

You complete seven core units:

  • Maintain and improve services to salon client
  • Cut and re-style hair to achieve a variety of looks
  • Colour hair using a variety of techniques
  • Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
  • Contribute to the maintenance of health, safety and security in the salon
  • Design and create a range of images incorporating hairstyling techniques
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of salon promotional activities.

You also choose one specialist pathway from:

  • Hairdressing
  • Afro-Caribbean hairdressing.
