These qualifications have been developed to help raise the awareness of food safety and the importance of nutrition and hydration of workers in health and social care, early years and childcare settings.
These Awards have been designed for all workers who have a role in the nutritional well-being of the range of individuals in their care, in health and social care , early years and childcare settings.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

They will cover the importance of food safety, nutrition and hydration,and are designed for those whose role might involve:

  • assessing people's nutritional needs
  • preparing and delivering food to people who use services
  • assisting people who use services with their own preparation or consumption of food
  • contracting services
  • inspection and regulation.

These qualifications will be assessed by means of portfolio of evidence and an externally set, internally marked assignment.

Is this level right for me?

Level 2
You are working in health and social care, early years or childcare settings; and have some relevant knowledge of preparing and delivering food to people who use services, and of the promotion of nutrition and hydration, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

These qualifications are ideal for workers in a range of health and social care, early years and childcare roles that deal with food safety and nutrition.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To assess these qualifications you will need qualified assessors you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially, to carry out training and assessment.

You will need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

There are no eligibility requirements.

Level 2

This level will suit you if you are working in health and social care, early years or childcare settings, and have some relevant knowledge of preparing and delivering food to people who use services, and of the promotion of nutrition and hydration.

There are two qualifications to choose from at this level:

  • Award in Food Safety in Health and Social Care and Early Years and Childcare Settings
  • Award in Promoting Food Safety and Nutrition in Health and Social Care or Early Years and Childcare Settings

For the Award in Food Safety in Health and Social Care and Early Years and Childcare Settings, you will need to achieve two credits from the following two units:

  • Principles of food safety when providing food and drink for individuals
  • Meet food safety requirements when providing food and drink for individuals.

The Award in Promoting Food Safety and Nutrition in Health and Social Care or Early Years and Childcare Settings comprises two mandatory and four optional units. Mandatory units are:

  • Meet food safety requirements when providing food and drink for individuals
  • Support individuals to eat and drink.
